At least five school students were killed and around 40 injured as a tractor turned turtle near Raipur in Chhattisgarh on Saturday, said reports.

Three boys and two girls were among the dead in the accident that took place at Sorid village in Gariaband district, local media reported.

The injured have been taken to Fineshwar hospital, according to reports.

About 75 students of Rajkatti government school were reportedly travelling to visit Sonai Dhapai temple as part of the Navratri festival.

The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, which eventually overturned. Two teachers, who accompanied the students are absconding along with the driver, reported New18.

The police have registered a case and is searching for the absconding driver.
