If the latest reports on the web are anything to go by, Chevrolet is reportedly working on a new premium hatchback for the Indian market, which could rival Maruti's upcoming Baleno and Honda's new Jazz.

The motor buffs at MotorOctane, who seemed to have got interesting tips on Chevrolet's future plans, claim that the company is preparing a new platform for a premium hatchback and sedan. While the sedan is likely to rival Honda City, the new hatchback from Chevrolet is likely to position itself in the premium segment.

Since Chevrolet already has Sail U-VA in the hatchback segment to challenge the dominance of Maruti Swift, we assume that the upcoming hatch could be pitted against Maruti Baleno and Honda Jazz.

A little else is known about Chevrolet premium hatchback as of now. However, the rumour also has it that the engine line-up of new unnamed Chevrolet premium hatchback could include 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines.

The new hatchback, which would be built on Gamma platform jointly developed by Fiat and General Motors, would be manufactured at the company's Talegaon plant in Maharashtra.
