Actor-politician and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan is recovering after undergoing successful right shoulder surgery at a Mumbai hospital on Saturday. A day after the operation, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu visited him at the hospital to enquire about his health and wish him a speedy recovery.
Sharing an update on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, the Jana Sena Party posted a photograph of Naidu meeting Pawan Kalyan, who was seen seated with his right shoulder bandaged.
"Honorable Chief Minister Sri @ncbn visited Deputy Chief Minister Sri @PawanKalyan, who underwent right shoulder surgery in Mumbai. A short while ago, Sri Chandrababu Naidu reached the hospital, spoke with Sri Pawan Kalyan, and inquired about his health condition," the party said in its post.
Pawan Kalyan underwent a three-and-a-half-hour surgery after doctors diagnosed him with severe rotator cuff injuries in both shoulders. According to the Jana Sena Party, doctors had advised immediate surgery, but the Deputy Chief Minister chose to postpone the procedure to fulfil his official responsibilities.
To ensure a smoother recovery, doctors operated only on his right shoulder. Surgery on the left shoulder has been planned for around two months later.
The party said the injury dates back to 2016 and worsened over the years due to Pawan Kalyan's demanding schedule, including extensive political campaigns, public rallies and continuous interactions with people. The severity of the injury came to light during medical examinations conducted ahead of his nasal surgery earlier this year.
During the procedure, doctors also discovered an additional fracture in his right shoulder, which was treated during the operation.
A few hours after the surgery, the Jana Sena Party confirmed that the operation had been successful. The procedure was performed by a team led by renowned orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala.
The party said Pawan Kalyan is recovering well under the supervision of doctors and is expected to undergo rehabilitation before resuming his official duties.
