Sony acquires Israel-based Altair Semiconductor in an effort to boost IoT. The deal is valued at $212 million and expected to close in February 2016.

Sony has the tradition of announcing new products at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) every year and it is prepared for 2017 event which will be held from January 5 to January 8. The Japanese technology giant hasn't revealed the products to be launched at the event but has scheduled its press conference, giving a hint that it may have something important to announce.

Sony will hold its CES 2017 press conference on January 4 at 5 pm PST (6.30 am New Delhi, 1am GMT, 10 am Tokyo, 2 am CET, 12 pm Sydney). It will take place at Sony Booth 17300, Las Vegas Convention Center.

The company is tight-lipped on the devices it will announce at the event but reports have claimed that two Sony Xperia phones with model number G3121 and G3112 will see the light of day. One is expected to sport a 5.2 inch display and another a 5.5 inch screen. It is also reported that the handsets will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor.
