The automakers have started releasing the sales figures of their cars in the domestic as well as international markets. For the month of May, major car makers such Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, Ford and Honda registered positive growth while Toyota Kirloskar Motor saw a blip in sales.

Here's the details of all car makers and their sales performance in May 2017.

Maruti Suzuki

India's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki's domestic passenger vehicle sales grew by 15.1 percent in May. The Indo-Japanese outfit sold a total of 136,962 units in May 2017 against 123,034 units in May 2016. The sales of last month include 130,676 units in the domestic market and 6,286 units elsewhere.

The highest percentage of growth has been recorded in the utility vehicle segment with the Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza at 66.3 percent with sales of 22,608 units in May 2017 against 13,596 units in the same month last year.

The exports were down in May 2017 by 36.3 percent. Maruti Suzuki exported 6286 units of cars last month against the 9872 units shipped in May last year.

Hyundai

Hyundai Motor India Ltd., country's second largest car manufacturer, posted sales of 42,007 units in May 2017. The sales are marginally up by 1.6 percent compared to 41,351 units in the same month last year. The company had recently given a makeover to Grand i10 and Xcent. The new versions along with Elite i20 and Creta heavily contributed to the total sales.

Mahindra & Mahindra

India's leading SUV manufacturer, Mahindra & Mahindra sold 41,895 vehicles (including cars, three-wheeler and commercial vehicles) in May 2017 against 40,656 vehicles during May 2016, accounting for a growth of 3 percent.

The Passenger Vehicles segment including UVs, cars and vans, found 20,290 takers in May 2017 as opposed to 19,635 vehicles during May 2016. The company's domestic sales stood at 40,602 vehicles during May 2017 while exports saw a sale of 1,293 units.

Tata Motors

In May 2017, Tata Motors passenger vehicles recorded sales of 10,855 units in the domestic market, a growth of 27 percent, over May 2016. The automaker continued to register good sales due to demand for the new gen models such as the Tiago, Tigor and the Hexa.

Ford India

American car maker Ford had yet another good month in terms of sales. The combined domestic vehicle sales and exports of Ford India stood at 23,503 vehicles against 17,279 vehicles in the corresponding month last year.

Domestic sales in May recorded 6,742 vehicles, as opposed to 5,780 units last year, while exports grew to 16,761 vehicles from 11,499 units in the same month last year.

Toyota

Japanese car maker Toyota's Indian subsidiary, Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold 10,914 vehicles in May 2017 in the domestic market against 12,614 units in May 2016, registering a slight dip in sales. On the other hand, exports saw sales of 1425 units last month against 990 units of in May 2016.

Honda Cars India

Honda Cars India Ltd. registered monthly domestic sales of 11,278 units in May 2017 against 9,954 units in the corresponding month last year, accounting for a growth of 13.32 percent. The Japanese car maker continues to witness a healthy demand for the new City and WR-V crossover.
