"Captain America: Civil War" (CACW) got a fantastic opening and made superb collection at Indian box office on its second day. But the Chris Evans-starrer failed to beat the record of "The Jungle Book."

"Captain America: Civil War" is the latest instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the third in the Captain America franchise. Its previous films have fared well at the Indian box office. Hence, there was huge hype and expectations for the latest movie in the series. Trade experts in India had predicted that it would start with a bang and become the biggest Hollywood opener in the country in 2016.

As predicted, Marvel Studios' latest offering opened to a superb response on Friday and remained rock-steady on Satuday. "Captain America: Civil War" collected Rs. 17.32 crore nett at the Indian box office in two days. Taran Adarsh ‏tweeted: "#CaptainAmericaCivilWar is all set for a TERRIFIC weekend... Fri 8.53 cr, Sat 8.79 cr. Total: ₹ 17.32 cr nett. India biz. Gross: ₹ 24.05 cr. [sic]"

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" had collected Rs. 9.2 crore nett at the Indian box office in its opening weekend. "Civil War" has beaten that record. Taran Adarsh had tweeted on April 7, 2014: "#CaptainAmericaTheWinterSoldier Fri 2.4 cr, Sat 3.5 cr, Sun 3.3 cr. Total: Rs 9.2 cr nett. Good growth on Sat, minimal drop on Sun. Good! [sic]"

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" has been the biggest opener for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in India. The movie had reportedly collected Rs. 10.98 crore on Friday and Rs 11.85 crore on Saturday in its opening weekend. It collected Rs 22.83 crore nett at the Indian box office on its first two days. "Captain America: Civil War" was expected to beat this record, but it has failed to do so.

But "Captain America: Civil War" has failed to become the biggest Hollywood opener in India, falling behind the record of "The Jungle Book," which collected Rs. 23.60 crore nett at the Indian box office in two days. Taran Adarsh ‏had tweeted on April 9, 2016: "#TheJungleBook is on a WINNING STREAK. Super word of mouth is translating into BO numbers. Fri 10.09 cr, Sat 13.51 cr. Total: ₹ 23.60 cr... [sic]"

"Captain America: Civil War" was expected to completely halt the collection of "The Jungle Book," but it has failed to do so. "The Jungle Book," witnessed a steep decline in business on its fifth Friday in the country, but managed to show a big leap, with its collection almost doubling on Saturday.

"The Jungle Book" collected Rs. 2.09 crore nett at the Indian box office on its fifth Friday and Saturday. Its 30-day nett Indian collection stands at Rs. 173.04 crore. Taran Adarsh tweeted: #TheJungleBook [Week 5] Fri 75 lacs, Sat 1.34 cr. Total: ₹ 173.04 cr nett. India biz. ALL TIME BLOCKBUSTER. Gross: ₹ 240.34 cr."
