In what doctors are calling one of the noblest acts of generosity, the family of a young man from Chikka Mandya village in Mandya's Kasaba hobli has turned their grief into purpose by consenting to donate their son's organs, giving several patients a new lease on life.

The organ transplant was successfully performed at the Trauma & Emergency Care Centre (TECC) of Victoria Hospital, Bengaluru, with the government hospital providing the service at an affordable cost.

Medical Superintendent Dr. Deepak and TECC special officer Dr. Asima Banu praised the dedicated efforts of the Bengaluru Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI), TECC staff, and the Jeevasaarthakate (organ donation facilitation) team.

"We are deeply grateful to the family, who even in their moment of profound grief, made the noble decision to serve society and brighten others' lives," said Dr. Asima and Dr. Deepak.

Darshan, the young man from Chikka Mandya, fell off his bike on February 22. Initially dismissing the fall, he returned home and went to sleep. When his condition worsened, he was rushed to a hospital, where doctors discovered severe internal brain hemorrhage.

He was immediately transferred to TECC at Victoria Hospital, Bengaluru. Despite extensive treatment, he showed no response. After two days, a senior medical panel, including Dr. Kavya, Dr. Deepak, and Dr. Asima Banu, officially declared him brain dead.

Following counseling sessions with the Jeevasaarthakate team, Darshan's family consented to organ donation β€” a decision that stands as a lasting tribute to his memory.

His liver, kidneys, heart valves, and other organs were retrieved and successfully transplanted into eligible recipients. The hospital's medical team has applauded the family for their courageous and selfless decision.
