The early reports from the trade clearly indicate that "Rajini Murugan" is the clear winner at the box office on the release day. Exhibitor Pathy Senthil confirmed the same on Twitter as he posted, "Good opening for Rajini Murugan with good audience report.Decent opening for Thara Thappatai but will not attract family Audience. Kathakali just average opening. Critics reviews are good. Audience report just OK."

He further added, #RajiniMurugan is the clear winner way ahead of the other releases. #TharaiThappattai today's collections better than #Kathakali and #Gethu"." It does not come as a surprise as the Sivakarthikeyan's film is the biggest among the four releases.

In fact, "Rajini Murugan" had released in more number of screens than other films. A rough estimate says that the Tamil movie has been released in 350+ screens despite facing huge competiton from the other films.

Vishal Krishna's "Kathakali" has been highly promoted and this has helped the movie to get above 260+ screens. Bala and Sasikumar's "Thaarai Thappattai" is released in 240+ screens and "Gethu" in 210+ screens. All the four films have been released on 14 January. However, the exact collection of the Tamil films will be known later in the day.

The advance booking was not up to the expectations but gradually the films pulled the audience into the theatres, says a report. All the four films are expected to witness good occupancy in the next few days due to the Pongal holiday weekend. Adding to that the government's special permission to screen five shows from 15 January to 21 January for single screens are expected to reap rich rewards for exhibitors, distributors and producers.

Meanwhile, "Rajini Murugan" and "Kathakali" have opened to good talks whereas "Gethu" and "Tharai Thappattai" have got mixed reviews.
