"This year we are looking at a certain growth in India. This will be on the back of new models such as the new X1 and 1 series, which will be launched towards the end of the year," said Philipp von Sahr, President of BMW Group India, at the launch of the new variant.

The all new X1 sports several changes in its exterior and interior specifications. The company has introduced three variants of X1 in the country. On the mechanical front, the SUV comes with a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine which is expected to generate 18hp of power, 380 Nm torque and reach 0-100 kmph acceleration in 7.9 seconds. Improvements were also seen in its headlight, tail lamp, bumper and steering wheel. The new BMW car will be assembled at the company's Chennai plant.

"We believe in profitable and sustainable growth. If you look at competition with respect to sales numbers every month you lose focus. We don't want volumes at the cost of profitability," said Sahr.
