The premiere of Ben and Lauren: Happily Ever After? revealed to viewers that everything wasn't lovey dovey between the couple who got engaged in the Season 20 finale of The Bachelor, ABC's popular dating reality show.

Higgins' decision to say 'I love you' to two women -- JoJo Fletcher and Lauren Bushnell– was one of the major factors that had been causing a strain in their romance ever since they got engaged. It did not help when the couple was invited to appear in the After the Final Rose segment in JoJo's Fletcher's season of The Bachelorette.

Higgins was all for it, but his fiancée wasn't looking forward to meeting Fletcher. "I have had a friendship with JoJo outside of you and I, since before you and I were engaged, and that friendship remains intact," she told Higgins. "The place where I get uncomfortable is when it's you, me, and JoJo because it just takes me back to that day. That was really hurtful for me, and it's not JoJo's fault and it's not your fault — I just don't know what kind of advice I would offer her."

Tension was high between Higgins and Bushnell during the taping of the After the Final Rose segment, but all viewers saw was a newly engaged couple.

The next episode will see Higgins and Bushnell having lunch with Fletcher and her fiancée Jordan Rodger, and it remains to be seen if the reunion of the exes will be as awkward as Bushnell feared.

Ben and Lauren: Happily Ever After? airs Tuesdays at 8 pm ET on Freeform.
