Dwayne Johnson's Hollywood movie Baywatch has shown average growth in its collection at the Indian box office on its second day. The desi factor -- Priyanka Chopra -- has also failed to help the movie.
Baywatch is an American action comedy film starring Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario and Kelly Rohrbach. A week ahead of its release in India, this Hollywood movie had hit the screens in the US and UK and made a good collection. But considering that it was a Memorial Day weekend, its business was not up to the mark.
Priyanka Chopra has played a villain in Baywatch and her presence was expected to help the movie make it big at the Indian box office. The movie, which hit the screens in India on Friday, clashed with Wonder Woman, A Death In The Gunj and Dear Maya in the country and received average response.
Despite having more number of screens than other new releases, Baywatch could not make it big and collected approximately over Rs 1.50 crore nett at the Indian box office on its opening day. Its competitor Wonder Woman, which had a limited number of screens, led the race with its collection reaching Rs 2.50 crore nett in the country.
The Seth Gordon-directed movie was expected to show big leap on Saturday to match the expectations of its makers and distributors. The Priyanka Chopra-starrer Hollywood flick did show improvement, but it was not up to the expected mark. Baywatch has collected Rs 2.50 crore at the Indian box office on Saturday, taking its two-day total to Rs 4 crore nett.
Besides English version, Baywatch was also dubbed and released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu India. Priyanka Chopra is one of the most popular actresses in the country and the makers of the film thought that her presence would drive in a large number of film goers to the theatres. But their calculations have gone wrong with the desi girl factor absolutely failing to translate into big bucks for them.
