B Unnikrishan extends his support to Alphonse PuthrenUnnikrishnan Bhaskaran Pillai/Facebook

On April 14, director Alphonse Puthren gave a befitting reply to Kerala State Film Awards Jury Chairman Mohan's statement on why "Premam" couldn't bag State awards this year. Now, filmmaker Unnikrishnan Bhaskaran Pillai aka B Unnikrishan has come forward extending his support to the director of the Nivin Pauly-starrer.

"Once again I watched the movie 'Premam' on television yesterday and also read Alphonse Puthren's response to Mohan sir through Facebook. I normally try not to respond to controversial matters. The award jury members always consider their stand while selecting the awardees. But there can be various reactions, if the jury chairman comments on the aesthetics of a particular movie after the declaration of the awards (translated)," Unnikrishnan posted on his Facebook page.

The jury chairman had claimed "Premam" failed to meet the standards of the State Awards as it lacked a proper structure and added that Alphonse had a lazy attitude on filming of the movie, compared to his previous film "Neram."

"I don't understand how the most respected Mohan sir could say that the first half of 'Premam' lacked proper structure, focus and that it was taken with a lazy attitude. This is the biggest lie about this movie. If this is called the director's laziness, I request Alphonse to become more and more lazy. We dont need this award bro as the scene here is 'contra,'" the "Madampi" director added.

In a recent Facebook post, Alphonse had also claimed that he doesn't want to be a filmmaker who does something to please the award committee. "I don't play safe. I'll break some rules. I'm replying because you degraded my film, my work and my fellow people with your ignorance sir. I'm reacting after a month because my ignorance shouldn't make you feel that you are correct (sic)," Alphonse said.

Meanwhile, director-actor-singer Vineeth Sreenivasan has also supported the "Premam" director by sharing the latter's recent Facebook post saying: "Straight from the heart.. Alphonse Puthren - a film maker and friend whom I love and respect!! Happy Vishu (sic)."

Meanwhile, "Premam," starring Madonna Sebastian, Sai Pallavi and Anupama Parameshwaran in the lead, opened to stupendous response from the audience and completed a record 300 days of its theatrical run in Tamil Nadu. The movie also rocked the Kerala box office for 151 days. The film was also re-released in few theatres in Tamil Nadu and had its television premiere on Asianet and Kairali channels on Thursday as a Vishu treat for movie-lovers.
