After the 10th highest opening day box office collection, Emraan Hashmi-starrer "Azhar" earned the ninth highest first-weekend collection. The sports drama minted Rs. 20.80 crore in its first weekend run from the domestic box office.

"Azhar," based on the life of Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin, had a fair weekend run. The film started its box office run with Rs. 6.30 crore, on Saturday it witnessed a growth of 11 percent and on Sunday, the growth was just 7.14 percent.

"#Azhar Fri 6.30 cr, Sat 7 cr, Sun 7.50 cr. Total: ₹ 20.80 cr. India biz...Growth in biz: Sat over Fri 11.11% Sun over Sat 7.14%" trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

Tony D'Souza's directorial had a good trend in the north circuits, but the film failed to show a growth across all the circuits, thus affecting the overall collection. The film could have done well considering that it combines Bollywood and cricket, but "Azhar" failed to attract audiences towards it, even on a holiday.

While the collections are decent, the film can only continue its open run until the release of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan-Randeep Hooda starrer "Sarbjit" on May 20.

Tony's directorial features Emraan in the titular role, Prachi Desai as his wife Naureen, while Nargis Fakhri plays the role of his second wife Sangeeta Bijlani. The film also features Lara Dutta in an important role.
