Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a boat ride on the Hooghly river here on Friday morning and met with boatmen and morning walkers.

Modi posted a few photographs of his river trip on social media, in which he is seen seated on a wooden boat with a camera in hand, and the iconic Howrah Bridge and the Vidyasagar Setu are visible in the background. "Tried my hand at photographing this great river. Also caught a close glimpse of the Vidyasagar Setu and Howrah Bridge," the Prime Minister said on X.

For every Bengali, the Ganga occupies a very special place, he said.

"One can say that the Ganga flows through the soul of Bengal. Her divine waters carry the timeless spirit of an entire civilisation.

This morning in Kolkata, I spent some time on the banks of the Hooghly river, an opportunity to express gratitude to Maa Ganga," Modi said on social media.

The Prime Minister said he had the opportunity to "meet boatmen, whose hardworking nature is admirable and morning walkers".

"On the Hooghly, reiterated our commitment to work towards the development of West Bengal and the prosperity of the great Bengali people," Modi said.

The Prime Minister is actively campaigning for the BJP in the assembly elections, the first phase of which was held on Thursday.

The second round of the elections will be held on April 29, and the counting of votes will be on May 4.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the BJP's ideological roots are deeply linked to Bengal's intellectual and cultural legacy. Addressing a rally, he paid tribute to Syama Prasad Mookerjee, saying his inspiration led to the formation of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and eventually the BJP.

Modi recalled Mookerjee's stand that the Constitution should apply uniformly across the country, citing his slogan against "two constitutions, two flags, and two heads" in one nation. He added that the BJP government fulfilled this vision by abrogating Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring full implementation of the Indian Constitution in the region.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that before 2014, during Congress-led governments, high taxes were imposed on almost everything. Addressing a rally, he claimed that the BJP government has since reduced or eliminated GST on most essential items used by the middle class.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that once a BJP government is formed after the May 4 results, "files related to every injustice and atrocity" will be opened. Addressing a rally, he reiterated his assurance, calling it "Modi's guarantee," and asserted that all cases of alleged wrongdoing would be taken up, signalling accountability and action under a new government in West Bengal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that the Ayushman Bharat Yojana is not currently active in West Bengal and assured that it will be implemented in the very first Cabinet meeting if the BJP forms the government in the state. Addressing a rally, he said beneficiaries would receive free medical treatment of up to Rs 5 lakh under the scheme. PM also highlighted the BJP's focus on direct benefit transfer (DBT), saying it ensures that money reaches people directly without any middlemen siphoning off funds.

He said that, "nari shakti" of West Bengal is set to script a new chapter for the state in the 21st century. Addressing a rally, he claimed that women across Bengal are united in their resolve for change, asserting that they are saying "ab nahi sahenge" and are determined to replace the TMC government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of being an "anti-women" party, contrasting it with the BJP's "women-led development" model. Addressing a rally, he said the BJP has fielded a mother as a candidate whose daughter, a doctor, was allegedly taken away by TMC-linked elements. He also cited the party giving leadership opportunities to a victim from Sandeshkhali, claiming it reflects BJP's commitment to justice. PM Modi further alleged that when women in Bengal seek justice, the TMC asks them to stay inside their homes, asserting that the election is about ensuring dignity, safety, and empowerment for women in the state.
