A visually-impaired minor girl was allegedly raped by a 50-year-old man in Sonari area of Sivasagar district, Assam on Tuesday. The accused, identified as Phulan Tamuli, raped the 10-year-old girl when she was alone at her house, reports The North East today.

The victim, who is undergoing treatment at a hospital, managed to identify the accused and also stated that he threatened to murder her if she revealed the incident to anyone.

Meanwhile, local residents carried out a protest rally on Wednesday demanding the immediate arrest of the accused.

Earlier in the month of September, an AIUDF MLA was accused of raping a minor girl who was engaged as a domestic help at his Guwahati residence. The politician was arrested 28 days after an FIR was lodged against him by the victim's parents, The Indian Express reported.
