Asin Thottumkal and Rahul Sharma got married on Tuesday, 19 January, in a grand event held at the Dusit Devarana Resort in New Delhi. They tied the knot in the presence of their relatives and close friends.

It was an elaborate ceremony where Asin and Rahul Sharma tied the knot as per Christian and Hindu customs. As they belong to different religions, their marriage was performed as per both the rituals. While the Church wedding was held in the morning, the Hindu wedding was performed in the evening.

People had expected stars like Ajith, Vijay, Surya, Vikram and others from Kollywood to grace the event as Asin has worked with them and they apparently shared good friendship before the actress shifted her base to Bollywood. But to everybody's surprise, no Kollywood stars attended the marriage.

Even from Bollywood, only Akshay Kumar, who remains the special man in their relationship for introducing them, was present at the wedding. However, we have to wait and see whether anybody from the Tamil film industry will turn up for the couple's marriage reception that will be held in Mumbai on 23 January.

Asin had started her career in the Malayalam film industry with "Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka" in 2001. The actress moved on to other Southern industries in the next few years. In a short span of time, the Kerala-born actress reached the pinnacle of popularity by working with biggies.

The 30-year-old worked with stars like Ilayathalapathy Vijay, Ajith Kumar, Suriya, Jayam Ravi, Venkatesh, Kamal Haasan and others. In 2008, AR Murugadoss introduced her to Bollywood, since then she did not return to South films.

In 2010, political issues had forced Nadigar Sangam to pass an order forbidding all its members from visting Sri Lanka for both personal or professional reasons. But Asin travelled to the island nation for the shooting of her Hindi film "Ready". This had irked the actors' guild and Tamil groups. Following the incident, it was believed that she was unofficially banned from Kollywood.

Her last South film was "Kaavalan" with Vijay in 2011.
