David Warner is hopeful that Australia can pull off the great escape and win the third Ashes Test. The visitors suffered a torrid time on day two at Edgbaston, allowing England to gain a lead of 145 before being reduced to 168 for 7.
It leaves Australia with a second innings lead of just 23, but Warner is still adamant the match can be saved if they establish a lead of over 150.
Obviously in any position you feel like you can win a Test match, said Warner. It is disappointing how today finished but look we are still in the game and we are always going to be hopeful.
I think we need a bit of an Ashton Agar cameo from a couple of years back! We have just got to come out and bat positive and have some intent like we always talk about, and get as many runs as we can.
Then obviously we have to come out and try and put the ball in the right areas, and get some wickets and hopefully get a roll on. Anything we can get is a bonus. I think if I am being realistic I think you definitely need 150 plus.
Australias batting collapse on day two saw captain Michael Clarke once again struggle for runs at the crease.
While Warner smashed his way to 77, Clarke managed just 3 runs in the second innings at Edgbaston and there are calls from some portions of the Australian media for him to be dropped.
I dont know what I make of it, Warner added. But all I know is that he has always put in the hard yards at training.
He is a world class player. Just look at his numbers, they are fantastic. At the moment things arent going to well for him, but he is working on his game a lot in the nets.
I cant fault his efforts there. Obviously the runs arent on the board, but I am sure a lot of us are aware we are not making enough of our first innings as wed like.
But that is cricket at the end of the day.
