Apple has activated its years-old official Twitter handle, @Apple, ahead of the much-anticipated launch of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus on Sept. 7. The social media account was created in September 2011, but has been dormant since.

Apple hasn't tweeted a single post from its Twitter account, but has attracted 102K followers as of this writing. But the recent change in the account hints that the company might be getting socially active after all. The @Apple Twitter account's profile photo and the header photo was changed to show the company is preparing for the upcoming media launch event.

The profile photo has been updated with the company's logo in black with a white background and the header image is the teaser art of Apple's "See You" iPhone event.

Apple's social media presence has been limited for most parts. Only recently the Cupertino-based tech titan launched its official @AppleSupport channel and @AppleNews to bring regular updates on its services. While most tech companies have strong social media presence, Apple has for years relied on its official website and press releases to spread the word about new product launches or other updates.

Since Apple's activity on Twitter comes shortly before the iPhone launch event, we are guessing the first tweet will be a live-tweet from the keynote event itself. Apple's launch will be live-streamed on its official website directly from Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco next Wednesday at 10 a.m. Pacific Time.

At the event, the company is expected to launch the next-gen iPhones, Apple Watch refresh, iOS 10 software, new headphones under the Beats brand and likely new Macs and iPads. We will just have to wait to find out. Stay tuned.
