The Apollo Group of Hospitals, one of Asia's largest healthcare providers, formally announced the launch of its telemedicine service in Yangon, Myanmar's former capital, on Dec 4.

Sailesh Thangal, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India in Yangon, inaugurated the telemedicine facility services at the Keen Cie Co. Ltd. along with Dr Prathap C Reddy, Chairman Apollo Hospitals Group who was joined by tele-link.

Among the prominent experts present at the launch ceremony were Prof Anupam Sibal, Group Medical Director Apollo Hospitals, Prof Sandeep Guleria, Renal and Pancreatic Transplant Surgeon, Dr V.P. Singh, Surgical Oncologist, Dr Muthu Jyothi, Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon and Dr Neerav Goyal, Liver Transplant Surgeon from Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals.

Speaking on the tele-link, Dr Prathap C Reddy said, "Our mission is to bring healthcare of international standards within the reach of every individual. We are committed to the achievement and maintenance of excellence in education, research and healthcare for the benefit of humanity."

With this facility, people in Myanmar can now consult world-renowned Indian doctors and get access to quality treatment and latest medical technology without physically going to any Apollo hospital in India. At the inaugural function, live tele-consultation was demonstrated between doctors of KC Healthcare, Yangon and Apollo Hospitals, Delhi.

"Apollo Tele-Medicine Network will facilitate ready access to specialists and super-specialists for referrals, consultation, second opinion, reviews, post treatment follow-ups besides facilitating tele-continuing medical education, programmes for the medical fraternity in Yangoon. The network will primarily provide Tele-Education, Tele-Medicine, Internet, video-conferencing and VoIP services via satellite and fibre optic network. Overall, this technology aims to boost healthcare access through effective utilisation of information technology," said Preetha Reddy, Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals Group.
