Sandalwood actor Ambareesh (Ambarish/Ambrish) passed away following a heart attack late on Saturday and Twitter has been flooded with Ambi's rare pictures, videos, tributes and condolence messages.

Ambareesh, whose real name was Malavalli Huchche Gowda Amarnath, made his acting debut in Puttanna Kanagal's National Award winning film Naagarahaavu in 1972. He featured in over 200 movies in his career spanning four and half decades. He established himself as a lead rebellion actor in a number of commercially successful films and went on to become synonymous with the term rebel star.

He plunged into politics and became an MLA with the Congress party, contesting the assembly election of the Mandya constituency. He was also the Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting in the first United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government from 2006-2007 and a Parliament member from Mandya Lok Sabha constituency.

Ambareesh suffered a cardiac arrest on Saturday and was immediately rushed to a hospital in Bengaluru. But he breathed his last in the hospital. The news about his death came as rude shock to all fans and admirers. Many of them took to Twitter to express their shock over his demise.
