Alia Bhatt and Sharvari-starrer Alpha, which released on July 3, 2026, has been facing massive backlash over its shoddy screenplay, over-the-top action sequences and lack of substance. Moviegoers have also criticised the makers for turning the YRF Spy Universe cringe with unnecessary skin show, weak dialogues and non-humorous one-liners.
Amid the criticism, Alia's mother, Soni Razdan, has come out in the film's defence by reposting fan reactions supporting her daughter and the spy thriller.
Another post she reposted said, "And this is supposedly her downfall? Her downfall is still higher than a lot of people's peak." The post also featured Alia's dance sequence from the film with co-star Sharvari.
Another fan reaction reshared by Soni read, "HOUSEFUL BOARDS ARE BACK after a LONG TIME for a FEMALE-LED FILM on SUNDAY. Yes, despite all the negativity, #Alpha has actually taken an EXCELLENT START in the morning shows all over India today. Even Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities are coming today."
Meanwhile, amid the criticism, Alia Bhatt took to social media to share behind-the-scenes moments from her action-packed journey in Alpha, posting unseen pictures and videos from the film's shoot.
From intense training sessions to high-octane action sequences and candid moments between takes, Alia offered a rare glimpse into the making of the YRF spy thriller.
However, the BTS posts also invited criticism. Several netizens claimed Alia had used a body double for many of the action sequences. Others said the promotional posts were helping keep the film in the news, but were having a negative impact as criticism around the film continued to grow.

The first set of pictures showed Alia sitting on the ground covered in mud and dirt after filming a stunt sequence. She later shared more pictures and videos featuring action scenes from the film.
Alpha, the latest instalment in YRF's Spy Universe, also stars Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor, along with a special cameo by Hrithik Roshan.
Despite its star-studded cast and the popularity of the YRF Spy Universe, the film has struggled to impress audiences and has opened to mixed reviews.

However, according to Yash Raj Films, Alpha registered a decent opening at the box office. The film earned Rs 17.42 crore worldwide on its opening day, including Rs 11.20 crore gross (Rs 9.25 crore net) in India and Rs 6.22 crore overseas (USD 647K), as shared by YRF on its official Instagram handle.
