Former Indian Air Force chief SP Tyagi and two others, who were accused in the AgustaWestland case, were on Saturday sent to judicial custody till December 30 by Patiala House Court in New Delhi. Tyagi and the other two accused were produced before the court after their CBI custody ended.

All the three accused — Tyagi, his cousin Sanjeev alias Julie Tyagi and lawyer-businessman Gautam Khaitan — have filed bail applications in court to be heard on December 21.

The CBI had on Wednesday told the court about the "incriminating" facts it had received from authorities in Switzerland which reveal the "percentage of commission" and "the cash" that the former IAF chief received to allegedly favour AgustaWestland in the Rs 3,600-crore VVIP helicopter deal.

The investigating agency told Special Judge Arvind Kumar that the Swiss authorities had sent them the statement of middleman Guido Haschke that allegedly "reveals how much percentage of commission was paid to S P Tyagi and his cousin and how the Tyagi brothers were paid in cash." Kumar had, then, sent the three accused to CBI custody for three days.

The CBI also said that they had received "incriminating documents" from Italy and Mauritius against Tyagi.

The AgustaWestland chopper scam — a Rs 3600-crore deal to supply 12 VVIP helicopters — came to light after Italian authorities claimed that the company had paid bribes to get the deal. Former IAF chief Tyagi, who was accused of influencing the deal in the company's favour during his tenure, has consistently denied all allegations.
