Dozens of budget and mid-range smartphones were released this year in India, and some of the most popular ones are Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, Moto G5s Plus, Huawei Honor 6X and Lenovo K8 Note.

You will see almost all mobile phone manufacturers releasing hordes of affordable devices in the coming year as well — all in the hope of making their presence felt in India's ever-growing smartphone market.

Indian consumers may look forward to the release of handsets like Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, Moto G6, and Moto G6 Plus just because of the success of their predecessors. Some original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) may even release new handsets to capture India's price-sensitive market besides launching sequels of the present successful series.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is no doubt one of the most-awaited budget smartphones of 2018. It's purely because of the stupendous success of the Redmi Note 4 in India.

It is expected to be unveiled in early 2018 before being released into the market either by the end of January or early February.

The device is expected to feature a 5.5-inch full HD display with 401 ppi (pixel density) and 18:9 aspect ratio, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor, Android Nougat-based MIUI 9 operating system, 3GB/4GB RAM, 32GB/64GB storage, dual 16MP main camera, a 5MP front-snapper, and a 4,000mAh battery.

It is also reported that the device will be priced at 1,200 Yuan (around $175 / €155) for the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant, 1,400 Yuan (around $205 / €180) for the 4GB RAM + 32GB variant, and 1,500 Yuan (around $220 / €195) for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage model, but it's not confirmed yet.

Indian consumers will expect the successors to the Lenovo-owned Motorola's Moto G5s models. Popular leakster Evan Blass @evleaks has claimed in a tweet that Motorola might release the Moto G6, Moto G6 Plus and Moto G6 Play next year. However, we are yet to know the details of these handsets.

Mobile phone makers are yet to reveal the devices they will release next year, but we can expect the successors of some impressive smartphones, including Honor 8 Lite, Lenovo K8 Note, Huawei Honor 6X, Nokia 5, Honor Holly 4 Plus, and Nokia 6.
