Asif Ali and Bhavana's Adventures of Omanakuttan has a hard time to hold up well at the Kerala box office after it locked horns with Tovino Thomas' Godha, Jayaram's Achayans and other recent releases in Malayalam upon its release on Friday, May 19. The debutant Rohit VS' directorial venture is said to be an experimental movie.

If you go by the history, Kerala box office is not averse to experimental movies. Though the movie opened to critical acclaim and good response from social media, it hasn't reflected on footfall in theatres. Now, the director's comment on Asif-starrer has touched many celebrities, who threw their weight behind the movie.

If you want to watch the movie [Adventures of Omanakuttan], do it before it goes off the screen," [translated from Malayalam]," reads Rohith's comment on Facebook that has gone viral on social media. "I know we have not got the best theatres to experience that brilliance...But we really wish we get it...The night and days are still young...I hope a miracle happens.... [sic]," reads another Facebook post of the director.

Godha movie director Basil Joseph, filmmakers Aashiq Abu, Ganesh Raj, Omar Lulu, Midhun Manuel Thomas, actors Vineeth Sreenivasan, Sunny Wayne, Rima Kallingal, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Adil Ibrahim and Shebin Benson, among many others have now come forward requesting people to support Rohith and the entire team of Adventures of Omanakuttan, which also has Siddique, Saiju Kurup, Kalabhavan Shajon, Aju Varghese, Srinda and Aditi Ravi in significant roles.

This is Rohith, a debutant, director of the movie Adventures of Omanakuttan. I personally know ,Rohith and his team of so many other debutants, had been working on this movie for more than 3 years and its so sad to see it end up like this. Even after getting so many positive feedbacks about the movie and its making , its bad that they are not getting the credit they deserved . I really feel sorry for them , and requesting all those movie lovers out there to go watch it in theatres if possible and support them too.

Ganesh Raj

Me, Basil Joseph, Rohith Vs and all started together at the same time. We were all short film makers. But if you ask me who made the best short film among all of us, I would point to Rohit's Decent Mukku. It was a superb satire and was quite a difficult project to even attempt especially as a short film, but he pulled it off superbly well. Later on as me and Basil started out as assistant directors, Rohit took the road less traveled and tried to turn independent without assisting anyone. That is how "Adventures of Omanakuttan" was born. I clearly remember an evening in fort Kochi three years ago when he narrated the script to me. Typical of him, it was another ambitious project. He struggled for the last three years to finish the film, battling all the demons you've ever heard of of the industry from bad production to lack of faith in a young team. The best thing about him is he stuck to his core short film team for the film too. I love people who try to bring up their friends as they go up too. I've tried my best to do that with my film and Rohit has pulled it off even better. Now that the film has released, I haven't seen many people talking about it, but the few who have, have only said good things. So friends, this is your chance, if you're an aspiring filmmaker, or a technician or an actor, Rohit is an inspiration for you. Support him and his film. For he is proof that you can make a film without any formal industry backing or training. He is proof that your passion alone is enough. So please do go watch Adventures, please put up a status about it, please tell your friends about it and please let's make sure the film gets a run that it deserves. Independent cinema is not really a thing here in Kerala but it definitely needs to be and this is how you can all help it start.

If you ignore the lack of urgency in the proceedings, Rohith Vs' Adventures Of Omanakuttan is a very interesting and intriguing watch. Though it is his first film, he hasn't opted for a simple narrative and has approached the film with 100% sincerity which can be seen in every frame of the film. Had heard an initial narration of the story 3 years back, from Rohith. But both Rohith and screenplay writer Sameer have only made it better now; with a very interesting approach in both writing and making. I know how difficult it was for them to complete this film and all the troubles they had during the shoot; but none of that has affected the final product. Akhil George's skilful cinematography never shows signs that he is a debutant. All the new technicians in this film - Arun Muraleedharan, Dawn Vincent, Livingston Mathew and many others have shown immense promise.

Bhavana looks drop-dead gorgeous and is in fantastic form in the film. Her comic timing is brilliant and it was superb to see her leading many of the hilarious sequences in the film; rather than watching on while the men do all the comedy. Saiju Govinda Kurup is incredibly funny and gets a lot of applause for his one-liners. Siddique Sir goes on a rampage and owns the hilarious climax of the film. Aju Varghese, Shajon Chettan, Srindaa, Rahul Madhav, Aditi Ravi, Mridul Nair, VKP Sir, Arya, Shivaji Guruvayoor and many others who appear in long and short roles are great.

But this movie belongs to its leading man - my dearest brother Asif Ali. It is probably his career best performance, and it was superb to watch him perform all the minute gestures, emotions and change-overs that the very intriguing character of Omanakkuttan demanded. The entire first half of the film rests on his strong shoulders; and it is only in the second half that the rest of the actors start playing a major part in the narrative. Last year, he gave a brilliant performance in Anuraga Karikkinvellam and this year he has given yet another remarkable performance, proving his growth as an actor. Though the movie was shot in so many different schedules over two years, Asif's consistency in his performance is mindblowing. And he was looking super-handsome in many scenes as well. Rohith has clearly understood the immense potential in Asif and has used his charm, vulnerability and energy at the right places to extract a brilliant performance from him. Was so happy to watch him in this film.

Though I have issues with the pacing of the movie, I think Adventures of Omanakkuttan is definitely worth a watch - for the brilliant performance from Asif, for its intriguing narrative and making, for Bhavana's energy and for all the fun & humour that ensues in the second half. Had it been slightly more racier, it would have turned out to be even better. The film has released in very few centres and has very little promotion; so only genuine word of mouth can help this sincere effort from a bunch of youngsters achieve success

I support the extreme grit and passion of Rohith Vs... To have held on to the film for almost three years through all the struggle(half of which i have seen for myself). I have had the same situation of my film being thrown out of theatres due to a super star's Tamil film release despite decent response in the first week an lost out huge no of theatres to that, which ultimately turned the fate of the film around. I didn't knw what to do other than curse the bad fate. All power to you and your team and hope and pray that more crowds pour in to watch Adventures of Omanakuttan soon.
