A sharpshooter, who used to work for Abu Salem, confessed after his arrest on Saturday that he had fired shots at film producer Rakesh Roshan and singer Daler Mehndi.

The Delhi Police said Jaan Usman alias Reenu admitted to firing shots at Roshan in 2001 on Salem's order and making extortion calls to industrialist and Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon's husband Anil Thadani.

"Usman had fired at the filmmaker after receiving instructions from Abu Salem. He has also been involved in making extorting threats to singer Daler Mehandi," deputy commissioner of police (crime) DK Gupta said, according to Hindustan Times.

Usman, 35, further disclosed how he had met Salem, who introduced him to "Aftab Bhatki, who was running a fake currency notes racket from Dubai and Karachi."

"Usman disclosed that he went to Mumbai in 1996 where he came in contact with one Waseem, a sharpshooter from Salem's gang. Waseem was an accused in the murder of film producer and owner of T-Series Cassette Co Gulshan Kumar. Waseem reportedly introduced Usman to Salem," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said, The Indian Express reported.

"... Usman allegedly began pumping fake notes into the country through Nepal and Bangladesh but was arrested in Delhi in 2000. He moved to Mumbai after he was released from prison and started extorting money from Bollywood personalities. He never appeared in courts for the various cases against him and was declared a proclaimed offender...," Yadav said.

Usman was once again arrested in 2010 for allegedly killing a businessman in east Delhi, but he was soon released on bail. The Delhi Police crime branch nabbed him from Inter State Bus Terminus Kashmere Gate, where he was to meet his associate, on Saturday.
