"2 States" has smoothly sailed through its three-week box office run but failed to achieve the ₹100 crore total at the domestic box office.

The film, which features Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor in lead roles, earned ₹98 crore by the end of its third week, according to koimoi.com.

Despite several new releases arriving in the past two weeks, the romantic comedy managed to hold a strong position at the domestic box office centres.

The Abhishek Varman directorial requires just ₹2 crore more to touch the coveted ₹100 crore mark in India. The film should probably reach the century mark by the fourth weekend.

The film started on a very good note and maintained the pace during the second and third weeks. But in its fourth week, six new films have released in India, which will reduce the screen count of "2 States". The collections will be affected due to the lesser number of screens.

Nevertheless, the film turned out to be one of the biggest hits of 2014, by earning more than double the production cost. The romantic comedy also features Ronit Roy, Amrita Singh, Shiv Kumar Subramaniam and Revathy in important roles.

Meanwhile, last week's releases "Purani Jeans" and "Kya Dilli Kya Lahore" have turned out to be disasters at the collection centers.

Both films struggled to get positive reviews from critics upon their release. And at the box office, the films had dismissal performances in their week one.

Among this week (9 May) releases, "Hawaa Hawaai" is the only film which is expected to rake in some moolah at the box office.
