Despite drawing a lot of flak for showing graphic images of Hannah Baker's (Katherine Langford) suicide and rape, the show is ready for a second season as revealed by show's executive producer Selena Gomez earlier. The show will again be developed by Brian Yorkey.

Recently in a panel hosted by Variety at Netflix's FYSee Space in Beverly Hills on Friday night, 13 Reasons Why show's executive producer and director Tom McCarthy was joined by executive producer Brian Yorkey, and actors including Katherine Langford, Dylan Minnette, and Kate Walsh.

"I respect the opinion of experts, but being an adult myself I sometimes think, 'Well, maybe we should listen to the people who are driving the viewership,'" McCarthy told Variety. "Young people want to have this discussion. Maybe they are telling us something."

According to Brian Yorkey, the second season of 13 Reasons Why will revolve around other high school kids who featured on Hannah's tapes and their version of the story.

"Hannah told her version of events, but there are at least 12 kids who have another version of those events that we actually haven't really heard from yet," Yorke said. "I don't think Hannah told any untruths on her tape. She reclaimed her narrative, which had really been taken from her."

And while cassette tapes won't be used the second time around, there is much more of Hannah's story to tell in Season 2, Yorkey said.

Katherine Langford will be reprising her role as Hannah Baker in the second season. She will be seen in the flashback scenes.

13 Reasons Why Season 1, based on the novel Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, revolves around Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford), a high school junior, who commits suicide. Her act leaves everyone stunned. And Hannah leaves behind a series of vintage cassette tapes, which will eventually provide clues to why she ended her life — and who's to be blamed.

Her classmate Clay, who had a crush on her, receives a shoe box full of cassette tapes. Hannah explains 13 reasons behind her decision to take the extreme step on the tapes. She also gives references of 13 people.

The first season of 13 Reasons Why aired in March 2017. Hence the season 2 is expected to debut around the same time in 2018.
