The film's trailer, songs and the unique marketing strategies have hyped the curiosity among fans of the "Dhoom" franchise. Moreover, the success of Hrithik Roshan starrer "Dhoom 2" in south box office has increased the expectations for Aamir Khan's film.

The pre-release business of "Dhoom 3" has taken off in southern states. Sathyam Cinemas' distribution wing will be distributing the Hindi and the Tamil dubbed version of "Dhoom 3" in Tamil Nadu and has booked around 150 screens for the Aamir starrer. They are also planning to add 50 more screens when the action thriller releases on 20 December 2013.

The film will be facing strong competition in Tamil Nadu as there are at least two Tamil films releasing on the same day. Apparently, "Dhoom 3" has the upper hand as the "Dhoom" franchise is quite popular in the state.

In Andhra Pradesh, "Dhoom 3" will be distributed by YRF's Vandana and Pal in Nizam and Mysore areas. Sai Korrapati (Bellary Sai) of Vaaraahi Chalana Chitram bought the distribution rights of the film for Andhra and Ceded areas. The Aamir starrer is expected to do well at the Andhra Pradesh box office considering that there are no big Telugu releases on 20 December. With Ram Charan's "Yevadu" being pushed to January 2014, "Dhoom 3" is likely to have a good run. The film is releasing big in AP/Nizam areas. It will be screened in 50 plus theatres in Hyderabad and in more than 10 screens in Vizag and Vijayawada cities, according to Andhrabox office.

The success of films such as "Chennai Express" and "Krrish 3" has opened markets for Hindi films in the southern region. "Chennai Express" remains the biggest grossing Bollywood film in Tamil Nadu-Kerala area and also performed well in other south states. "Krrish 3" also did fantastic business in southern regions. Not just the Hindi version, but the Tamil and Telugu version of the film also raked in better collections.

With just about a week left for "Dhoom 3" release, it remains to be seen if the Aamir starrer will be able to outperform "Chennai Express" and "Krrish 3" at the south Indian box office.
