Last week, Xiaomi confirmed to launch a flagship device on 15 January sparking rumours that the much anticipated Mi5 will finally get unveiled. But, a new report has surfaced online that Chinese company might announce the Redmi Note 2, not Mi4 successor as previously reported.
Technology blog Gizmo China has claimed that Xiaomi will launch the second generation Redmi Note at the company's event next week.
To corroborate the report, popular Chinese online store Oppomart has jumped the gun by listing the yet-to-be announced Redmi Note 2 on its website revealing the device's design, price and specification details.
In the picture, the device sports curvaceous candy-bar shape with almost zero-bezel to sides. It looks identical to images which have been circulated in the Web for the past few weeks. Back then, those pictures were believed to be of Xiaomi Mi5, now it seems like device was all along Redmi Note 2.
Oppomart says the flagship Xiaomi phablet would cost $249(around €211/₹15,700) and sport 5.7-inch full HD (1,920x1,080p) resolution display and pack Android 4.4 KitKat with MIUI 6.0 powered by 64-bit class Snapdragon 615 processor with 2GB RAM and a 3,600mAh battery.
Though the rumour is spreading like a wild fire in the Internet, Xiaomi is still incommunicado. Instead, the company has used this opportunity to drum up curiosity among consumers to promote the upcoming flagship device.
The company via official MIUI forum page has invited fans to guess answers to three questions:
What is the new product? What does it look like? and What is it as thin as cicada's wings? - Dropping a hint that upcoming device will flaunt a very slim body. Some lucky winners are said to get some goodies on the launch day.
As of now, there is neither official word nor reliable information whether Xiaomi will announce Mi5 or Redmi Note 2 on 15 January. With just a few days to go for the official launch, we are left to play the waiting game to finally know the new device.
