After launching the premium Mi Note 2 and Mi Max smartphone, Xiaomi is ready to pull the wraps off the budget smartphone Redmi 4 series.
The Redmi 4 launch event will kick-off at at 7:00 pm CST (4:30 pm IST) on November 4 in Beijing. Besides the Redmi 4, the company is also expected to unveil the low-end 4A series.
In the past couple of weeks, we witnessed numerous Redmi 4 series images and features being leaked on the internet, due to which not much is left to wonder about.
Having said that, everything that gets posted on the internet cannot be taken as genuine, so to provide better perspective, we leafed through some reliable reports and have come up with a price and release details of the device and also a list of key specifications, which are more likely to feature in the Redmi 4 series.
Design and Display:
As per the recently released Xiaomi teaser, the Redmi 4 will have a smooth metal cover on the back with curved corners and 2.5D glass shield on the screen's edge, which is a huge improvement over the predecessor Redmi 3 series.
It is expected to measure 141.3 x 69.6 x 8.9mm in dimensions and weigh 153g.
On the other hand, the Redmi 4A is expected to come with lighter body weighing 140 g and measure 139.9 x 70.4 x 8.5mm in size.
The other key difference between the two is that the original Redmi 4 model will boast 5.0-inch full HD (1920x1080p) screen, whereas the 4A series will have 5.0-inch HD (1280x720p) display.
Processor, RAM and storage:
The top-end Redmi 4 is said to house Qualcomm Snapdragon 625/MediaTek Helio P10 octa-core (depending on the region of sale) chipset backed by 3GB RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage.
Whereas, the Redmi 4A is likely feature low-powered Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core CPU with 2GB RAM and 16GB.
Both the models will have microSD card slot for memory expansion.
Both the Redmi 4 and 4A series are expected to come with a 13MP primary camera with dual-LED flash on the back, and a 5MP front snapper.
Several reports have indicated that Xiaomi's Redmi 4 will have 4,100mAh battery, same as the Redmi 3S. It remains to be seen whether it will be able to provide long battery like its predecessor or not, considering the fact the new model will have full HD display.
Xiaomi can keep the same battery life span by optimising the MIUI software.
As far as the Redmi 4A is concerned, it is said to have 3,030mAh cell.
Mobile Operating System:
Xiaomi Mi Note 2 and Mi Mix, which was launched just a week ago, feature Android Marshmallow-based MIUI 8, so we expect the new Redmi 4 series to have same OS version.
Xiaomi Redmi 4 series is expected come for ¥1300 (approx. $192/€173/Rs. 12,830).
Like previous years, Xiaomi is expected to first roll-out the Redmi 4 series in China within a week of the launch and release it later in other markets.
Keep an eye on this space, as we will be doing a detailed coverage on the official Redmi 4 series launch and price details later today.
