Xiaomi has pulled the wraps off its much-awaited feature-rich budget phablet Redmi Note 2 in China on Thursday, 13 August.

The new Redmi Note 2 comes with major upgrades over its predecessor. The key improvements include full HD display and to help read messages at night, its minimum screen brightness has been reduced to 10x (compared to Redmi Note's screen), and can also produce luminance as low as 0.5 cd/m2, said the company.

Another notable inclusion is the powerful MediaTek Helio X10 processor, which comes with an impressive AnTuTu benchmarking score of 54024. It is backed by 2GB RAM, 16GB/32GB storage and 3060 mAh battery.

It also boasts an impressive 13mp Samsung/OV camera with PDAF (Phase Detection Autofocus) function and 0.1s focus speed. And on the front, it houses a 5mp OmniVision snapper with 5-element lens and f/2.2 aperture.

Redmi Note 2 is the first Xiaomi device to run on the new MIUI v7.0 interface, based on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. It is said to be developed by a team of more than 750 R&D engineers. They created a slew of custom themes and MIUI 7.0 also boasts face-recognition technology in gallery app will let you make separate album for each individual.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Price:

The company has confirmed that the new phablet will be available in three variants, two based on LTE-networks (TD-SCDMA and FDD-LTE), whereas the third model will be branded as Redmi Note Prime, which boasts 32GB inbuilt storage and faster 2.2GHz MediaTek Helio X10 processor.

All three will cost 799 RMB (around $125/€112/Rs 8,090), 899 RMB (around $140/€126/Rs 9,100) and 999 RMB (around $157/€140/Rs 10,120), respectively.
