Microsoft is finally set to release the much-delayed Windows 10 Mobile update to its Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.0-based devices Thursday, March 17, after months of anticipation, VentureBeat said in an exclusive report. The Lumia device owners will heave a sigh of relief if the report turns out to be true as the new operating system update is long-awaited.
There is no mention of what devices will receive the Windows 10 Mobile update, but it should first come to Lumia 430, Lumia 532, Lumia 535, Lumia 540, Lumia 640, Lumia 640 XL, Lumia 735, Lumia 830 and Lumia 930. Microsoft had earlier confirmed that the software will initially be rolled out to Windows 8.1-based phones before making it available to those running on Windows 8.0.
The report claimed that a person familiar with the company's plans had tipped the date of Windows 10 Mobile release to the Lumia handsets. It is in sync with Italian website Windows Blog Italia's claim that Windows 10 Mobile update is scheduled for March 17.
However, many may not take the report of Windows 10 Mobile update seriously as speculations of its release has been doing the rounds for a few months now. It was supposed to be rolled out in Decemberm, but it never happened and reports of its arrival in January and February turned out to be false.
Vodafone Italy had claimed that the software update would be rolled out to some Lumia handsets between March 7-13, but didn't happen. Reports of it being seeded to the Lumia 535 and Lumia 640 devices too turned out to be false.
