One student has been killed and another injured after a reported shooting at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina in United States on Sunday.

The shooting occurred at about 1.20 am local time after which the university was put on a lockdown for several hours.

"We can confirm that there has been one fatality and one injured individual. Both are believed to be students," the university has said on its Facebook page

The shooter, who has been identified as Jarrett Jerome Moore, is still reportedly on the loose and is not believed to be a student, according to reports.

The incident comes a month after 10 people were killed in a campus shooting in Oregon.
