American smartphone maker Apple Inc has reportedly hiked prices of its premium iPhone 6 and 5S series handsets in India.

Apple has increased the prices by ₹2,500 on all the three models of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and also on 32GB and 16GB variants of 2013 edition handset - iPhone 5S, reported FoneArena.

The price hike is attributed to the recently announced Union Budget 2015 last week, which increased the custom duty tax on imported products from 6% to 12.5%. But this move by Apple looks very premature, as the budget-related announcement was only supposed to come into effect on 1 April.

As per new pricing structure, 16GB Apple iPhone 6, which used to cost ₹53,500, will now cost ₹55,000. Whereas, its bigger sibling's starting price is now a whopping ₹65,000.

However, some online stores are offering the same iPhone models with huge discounts. They come up with promotional campaign almost every week. A few days back, Amazon India had carried out an exclusive Apple iPhone week offering cash-back and gift-card vouchers.
