The Kerala police arrested a teenager in Thiruvananthapuram on 27 July on charges of creating a fake Facebook account of popular Malayalam television actress Gayathri Arun and posting her morphed photographs and vulgar messages.

The accused, Muneeb (19), was arrested under Section 469 of IPC (forgery for purpose of harming reputation through electronic media) and Section 67 of the IT Act (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form).

"Two weeks ago we traced him and seized his mobile phone, which was sent to the cyber cell for detailed examination," Medical College circle inspector Sheen Tharayil said. The teenager was later released on bail.
