A soldier was shot dead in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, as the kingdom sees a spike in terror attacks in recent months.

The soldier was killed in Saudi Arabia's Qatif district on Tuesday, Reuters reported, citing the Saudi Press Agency. Qatif is a Shia-dominated area in the kingdom's eastern province.

Two others were injured in the attack, Saudi Arabia's interior ministry has said.

Militants reportedly opened fire at Sami Mouawad Awadallah al Harbi from a car on Tuesday evening.

Two people have been arrested in connection with the shooting.
