Since the start of the year 2013, the Indian mobile phone industry has witnessed a slew of affordable big-screen smartphone releases by MNC and local manufacturers.

Earlier in January, Samsung launched the mid-range 5.0-inch smartphone Galaxy Grand in the sub-continental. Soon, local smartphone makers Micromax, Karbonn, Lava intensified the competition by launching low-cost handsets which are almost half the price of Samsung's affordable phablet.

Another Indian based company, Celkon, recently joined the low-cost phablet race by launching its A119 Signature HD last week. But does Celkon's phablet have enough caliber to match Galaxy Grand?

Here is the brief comparison of main specs between Samsung Galaxy Grand and Celkon A119 Signature HD:

Being an MNC brand, Samsung's Galaxy Grand display resolution comes as a bit of a disappointment. The phablet sports a 5.0-inch LCD display with 480x800p display resolution, whereas Celkon's smartphone takes lead with an impressive 5.0-inch HD 720x1280p display.

Celkon's Signature HD houses a dual-core processor with 1GHz CPU speed, whereas Galaxy Grand packs faster 1.2 GHz dual-core processor.

Galaxy Grand sports an 8.0-megapixel main camera with Auto-focus and LED flash support with Full HD video recording capability and a 2.0-megapixel front facing camera. Celkon Signature HD has a higher 12.0-megapixel rear-side camera with flash support and a 3.0-megapixel front-facing camera.

Mobile Operating System:

In terms of mobile OS, they both stand even in this department as both Galaxy Grand and Signature HD run on same Android mobile OS v4.1 Jelly Bean.

Galaxy Grand's price tag of ₹21,000 seems a bit inflated in a price-sensitive market like India where local smartphone makers such as Celkon, Micromax, Karbonn and others are flooding the market with low-cost devices with high-end features.

Celkon's A119 Signature HD is priced ₹13,499, almost ₹7,500 lesser than Galaxy Grand.

In terms of storage, RAM, battery capacity and network connectivity features both smartphones have negligible differences.
