New Delhi, Jan 30 (ANI): Former president Giani Zail Singh’s press secretary Tarlochan Singh has contradicted Congress vice- president Rahul Gandhi's claim that the Congress government had tried to stop the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Singh in a statement said that the 1984 riots were in fact “orchestrated and sponsored”. He also said that Rajiv Gandhi who took over as PM following the death of Indira Gandhi, even refused to take calls from the Giani Zail Singh when the latter tried to speak to him to discuss the situation. Speaking over this, BJP vice-president Vinay Katiyar on Thursday said that Rajiv Gandhi wanted that riots should happen. He also added that government did not take steps which were needed to stop the riots.
