Foreign tourists' arrival in India, forex earnings rise marginally

As many as 50.68 lakh foreign tourists visited India in the first eight months this year as compared to 48.51 lakh in the corresponding period in 2014, an increase of 4.5%. However, the foreign exchange earnings rose by just 3% during the period to Rs 82,225 crore during Jan-Aug 2015, according to the Ministry of Tourism. The number of foreign tourists in August 2015 rose to 5.89 lakh from 5.76 lakh in Aug 2014, up 2.25%. The forex earnings thus rose less than 1% during the month on year-on-year basis.
