With the advancement of technology, social media has become one of the most important platforms for celebrities to promote their upcoming films and to keep in touch with their fans.

While many celebs are active on social media, including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, there are a few who thought of taking a break from the online world by deactivating or deleting their accounts.

Recently, "Scary Movie 3" actress Pamela Anderson deactivated her Twitter and Facebook accounts. She has even made her Instagram account private.

"Bye Bye Twitter, Face Book (sic) and Instagram. Nothing personal," she tweeted.

Pamela deleted her online profiles soon after she filed third divorce from her husband Rick Salomon.

Meanwhile, there are many other Hollywood celebs who have deactivated and reactivated their social media accounts.

Check out the celebs who have once deactivated or deleted their social media profiles:

Chris Brown

Chris took down his Instagram page after he received many negative comments for using Jesus Christ image to describe his feelings.

"Social media takes away the essence of why we are even special or icons. So with that, I'm detaching myself from that world," he posted before deleting his account.

Earlier, he had deleted his Twitter account, following a vulgar conversation with female comedian Jenny Johnson.

Rihanna

The Barbadian singer's 'badgalriri' Instagram account was reportedly deactivated by the company for violating their terms and conditions, after she posted Lui magazine's front cover image, which featured her topless. Soon, Rihanna was back on her online profile by posting a sketch of her shaking hands with the Instagram logo.

Demi Moore

After seeking divorce from her ex-husband Aston Kutcher, Moore had deleted her Twitter account in 2013.

Iggy Azalea

After describing Internet as "The Ugliest Reflection Of Man", Rapper Iggy Azalea stopped using her Twitter account. She became a butt of jokes after she posted her holiday bikini pics, which were highly criticised by Twitterati. However, her account is now handled by her management.

I feel the hatred and pettiness i see online at all times is at making me become an angry person and I cannot be that. But I also want to let my fans know iam taking some time away from social media. I need to be happy and it is too negative and draining.

Selena Gomez

Selena has often deleted her social media accounts citing many reasons. She deleted her first Instagram account citing she doesn't have time to update it. Also, another account belonging to her was reportedly hacked.

Zayn Malik

"One direction" director Zayn Malik deleted his Twitter account in 2012 after he was "sick of all the useless opinions and hate."

The reason i don't tweet as much as i use to, is because I'm sick of all the useless opinions and hate that I get daily goodbye twitter. Fans that have something to say can tweet me on the one direction account.

Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj also left Twitter in April 2012 after a fan posted snippets of her album online. However, she was back on her micro-blogging page one week later.

Amanda Bynes

Following her retirement from acting in 2010, the former American actress' Twitter account @chicky was also deleted the same year. However, she was back to the online world with her new account @amandabynes in 2011.

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus deleted her Twitter profile in 2009 as her then boyfriend Liam Hemsworth didn't have a Twitter account.
