At least 16 people were crushed to death, over 100 injured and dozens were trapped after the roof a factory collapsed in Lahore on Wednesday. 

The roof of a three-storey building of a bag manufacturing factory in Sundar Industrial Estate was under construction, when it collapsed over the workers. 

According to Tribune, more than 40 workers were trapped under the debris, other local dailies but claim that hundreds of workers are stuck underneath the collapsed building.

The death toll is expected to go up, as the rescue work is still underway. The owner of the factory, identified as Rana Shahzad was also killed in the collapse. 

 At least 15, including women and children rescued from the site have been rushed to the hospital, the report said. At leat 100 people were injured in the roof collapse, eyewitness claim.

Rescue officials also have asked the hospitals to be on alert as causalities are expected to rise "sharply."

Local reports said that there were 150 workers in the factory when it collapsed. Rescue officials and eyewitness told local dailies said that they can still hear the cries for help from under the debris.
