Nokia 3 with Android 7.0 Nougat goes on sale in India for Rs. 9,499; features and availability details

HMD Global Oy released the first of the Android-powered Nokia series phones, Nokia 3 in India on June 16.

Though, Nokia 3 falls in the entry-level smartphone range, it boasts top-notch build quality. It has high-grade aluminium frame around the edges, which not only offers stability to the structure to withstand the accidental fall, but all also gives out sense of premium when held in hand.

"Premium is an experience, not a price point. We've been extremely thoughtful about the overall performance of the Nokia 3, to ensure that a premium high quality experience is fully accessible for everyone," Pranav Shroff, ‎Director, Global Portfolio Strategy, HMD Global said in a statement.

"We've thought hard about how the phone will be used, and then crafted a beautiful device to make sure it looks as good as it performs," Shroff added.

Nokia 3 also features 5.2-inch HD (1280x720p) screen with Corning Gorilla Glass shield, 1.3GHz MediaTek (MTK 6737) quad-core SoC (System-on-Chip) backed by 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage and a 2,650mAh battery. It also houses two 8MP cameras with auto-focus on both front and the back.

Most notable aspect of the Nokia 3 series is that it runs pure Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box and is confirmed to get the upcoming Android 0 series update. The company has also assured that the device will get two years of software support including Google's monthly security patch.

Nokia 3 price and availability:

Nokia 3 is available only on brick-and-mortar stores in India. It comes in vivid colour options— Tempered Blue, Silver, Matte Black, Copper—for Rs. 9,499.

Nokia 3 vs Competition:

The new Nokia 3 will be up against the popular Xiaomi Redmi 4, Redmi 4A, Samsung On series, Moto C series and Lenovo K5 Plus, among others.

As a part of promotional offer, Vodafone consumers will get 5GB data per month at Rs. 149 per month for 3 months on their Nokia 3. Consumers will also get Rs. 2500 off (Rs. 1800 on hotels & Rs.700 off on domestic flights) on Makemytrip.com.

In a related development, Nokia 5 is slated to hit stores in India in July and the Nokia 6 will also be released later in the same month.
