Motorola on Thursday unveiled its much-awaited Moto X smartphone at a media event in New York.

The mid-range Moto X smartphone sports an AMOLED HD 720p screen and runs on Android v4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS with 2GB RAM and 16GB memory. AT&T subscribers get an exclusive 32GB of memory.

Under the hood, Moto X boasts of custom architecture Motorola X8 Mobile computing system which packs a fast 1.7GHz Qualcomm snapdragon dual-core processor, paired with quad-core Adreno graphics engine, a natural language processor core and a contextual processor. It packs a 2200 mAh battery which can run the smartphone for up to 24 hours.

Even though Moto X lacks the wow-factor in terms of hardware specifications when compared to rival flagship devices, it compensates with a rich user-experience boasting of an array of smart features such as 'Touchless Control' wherein users can text, send email, set notifications/remainders, check game-scores and perform more operations without having to put touch the screen, thanks to a microphone which takes commands. User just need to say 'OK Google Now' to open the phone.

The new phone comes with a Quick-Capture camera feature, wherein a user can launch the camera in a matter of few seconds by just flipping the device twice horizontally. Moto X houses a 10.0-megapixel camera with 'Clear Pixel' (RGBC) sensor, LED flash support, full HD1080p video recording. On the front side, it features a 2.0-megapixel camera which also has the ability to take full HD videos.

Another interesting feature of Moto X is that user can customise their Moto X with close to 2,000 possible combinations. They can engrave a personalised message on the phone's back panel, choose colours for panels (18) including default wallpapers and many more options. In order to customise it, buyers need to log into the Motorola website. [This offer is currently available for US citizens only].

Motorola has confirmed that Moto X will hit stores in the US ($199 -16GB, $249-32GB), Canada and Latin American markets by Late August or by early September. There is no news of when the smartphone will be made available in other global markets.
