The upcoming Malayalam movie, "Karinkunnam 6's" (Karinkunnam Sixes), has been in the news ever since it went on floors. The sports-based film narrated against the backdrop of a central jail has Manju Warrier and Anoop Menon in the lead roles.

The Deepu Karunakaran-directed movie got a clean "U" certificate from the regional censor board on June 27 and the makers have announced that the Volleyball-based flick will hit the screens on July 7 at the Kerala box office. The Manju-starrer is expected to lock horns with many other big-budget movies, which are also scheduled as Eid releases of the year.

Manju plays the role of a Volleyball coach named Vandana, who trains the sport to few inmates of Poojapura Central Jail in Thiruvanathapuram. The players include Babu Antony, Gregory Jacob, Baiju, Padmaraj Ratheesh and Santhosh Keezhattoor and the film also has Suraj Venjarumoodu, Lena, Sudev Nair, Sreejith Ravi, Sudheer Karamana, Kottayam Pradeep, Shyamaprasad, Major Ravi, Maniyanpilla Raju, Noby, Jagadeesh, Manikuttan, Shankar Ramakrishnan and Nandu in pivotal roles. Kollywood actor Samuthirakani also appears in a cameo role in "Karinkunnam 6's," which is the first Malayalam movie based on Volleyball.

Arunlal Ramachandran has penned the story of the film, for which Jayakrishna Gummadi has handled the cinematography and the music has been composed by Rahul Raj. It is being produced by Jayalal Menon and Anil Biswas under the banner of Backwater studios.
