Anoop Menon and Bhamaa's latest Malayalam movie "Maalgudi Days", released on Friday, 8 January, has opened to positive response from critics. The movie, said to be a blend of drama, fun and mystery, is the directorial debut of brothers Visakh, Vivek and Vinod Sreekumar.
The emotional thriller is said to have taken inspiration from a real life incident that happened in Nagaland in 2002, and critics have lauded the director trio for writing an intense and engaging screenplay for the movie. Anil Nair's cinematography, capturing the beauty of Yercaud, Kuttikanam, Peerumedu and Munnar in Idukki, Kerala, has also been well appreciated.
"Maalgudi Days" initially revolves around the story of two children — Milan Joseph (Vishal) and Atheena (Janaki) — who study in Maalgudi Public School. Atheena suffers an emotional wreck after losing her father, befriends Milan in school. After they meet Zephan (Anoop Menon) in a forest, the story focuses on his life. What happens next forms the gist of "Maalgudi Days".

Anoop Menon has the best in his career with the role of Zephan Solomon in this really happened story. Bhama took a good role to make her come back to the Malayalam films with Janet in Malgudi Days. She maintained a good chemistry with Anoop Menon as his wife and the vital part of the thriller. As a whole the movie Malgudi Days is a good effort made by the trio of brothers and they have given the industry a beautiful film especially for the parents regarding their caring for the kids. Don't miss this movie because it's made for each one of you.
The screenplay was intense and the narration was engaging. It never made the audience yawn inside the cinema hall while keeping the emotional intensity of the plot. Anil Nair's DOP was superb and was the real highlight of the film. Editing was decent but it may be great if a bit more precise at some points. Malgudi Days is an honest attempt to give us something very different and the trio of Vivek, Vishak and Vinod had succeeded in giving it. It was a really good entertainer as well as a film which gives us a message about parenting. It also shows certain social situation where innocent people have to pay for the crimes committed by some others. In Total. Malgudi Days is a winner in all sense and will never disappoint you as a film lover.
