Anxious supporters of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa gather outside Apollo Hospital on Dec 5, 2016.IANS

The news about Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's critical heath condition gave a huge shock to one of her supporters, who died after seeing the news on TV on Sunday night.

All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) cadre Nelagandan from Gandhi Nagar in Cuddalore district experienced severe chest pain and died after watching the news.

His family called the ambulance, but the medics on arrival told his family that he had died.

Previously on October 6, another supporter — a 47-year-old AIADMK worker — had died of heart attack in Coimbatore after hearing rumours about Jayalalithaa's health.

Her supporters have surrounded the Apollo Hospital in Chennai and 5,000 police personnel, including companies of Armed Reserve, Tamil Nadu Special Police, were called in for reinforcement by the Chennai Police for crowd control. Roads going to the hospital have been blocked by the police.

Security has been beefed up massively in the city in case of any emergency. KSRTC buses have suspended its services in Chennai. Buses from Vizag to Chennai have also been cancelled.

The police have also been deployed at Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border areas like Attibele and Chamarajnagar. About 60 buses heading from Karnataka to Tamil Nadu have been stopped at Chamarjnagar after KSRTC suspended bus services.

Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) is waiting to see what the situation in Tamil Nadu is going to be before suspending its services completely.
