Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film "Bajirao Mastani" sparked several controversies with the release of its song "Pinga".

Featuring Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra, the song shows Bajirao's wives Kashibai and Mastani dancing together.

Recently, social activist Hemant Patil of Bharat Against Corruption NGO filed a petition in the Bombay High Court seeking stay on the release of the film. He wants the film not to be released until the two songs, "Pinga" and "Malhari", are censored.

"The filmmaker has tweaked facts under the pretext of artistic licence. There are various historic evidence as well as several letters from the descendants of Peshwas which prove misrepresentation in the name of creativity," Bollywood Life quoted a few excerpts from the petition.

"The song Pinga is offensive to Marathi culture. It is a known fact that Kashibai was a handicap and suffering from asthma, and hence it is highly impossible that she danced with Mastani. The said song is nothing but an obscene item song," the petition further claimed.

This is not the first time that Bhansali has landed in trouble due to the song "Pinga". After the release of the song, a descendant of the Peshwas, Mohini Karkarey, wrote an open letter to the director.

In the letter, she claimed that Kashibai could not have had danced like Priyanka did in "Pinga" as she had arthritis. Also, Mastani was not a courtesan, but the daughter of Raja Chatrasaal of Bundelkhand.

Though Deepika and Priyanka looked stunning in the song, but as per allegations made on Bhansali, the film's release might create trouble for the makers.

Meanwhile, "Bajirao Mastani" features Ranveer Singh as Peshwa Bajirao, Deepika as Mastani and Priyanka as Kashibai.

Releasing on 18 December, the film will clash with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol's "Dilwale".
