Ever since "Bajirao Mastani" song "Pinga" released, the song as well as the film has been receiving criticism from a section of viewers.

A few days back, the film landed in a controversy when Mohini Karkarey, a descendant of the Peshwas, wrote an open letter to producer-director Sanjay Leela Bhansali where she claimed that the film as well as the song lacks some basic facts about the history.

According to a report in Deccan Chronicle, Bajirao's descendant Prasadrao Peshwe has also written a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, where he has apparently mentioned that the historical facts have been 'altered' in the film.

While, the production house is yet to clarify on the controversy, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone chose not to comment on the same during the "Bajirao Mastani" trailer launch.

However, Priyanka Chopra, who is abroad, opened up on the controversy through a video conference with the reporters.

"This film is a part of history. You will see clarification from production house (Eros International) and Sanjay Leela Bhansali (director). This film is based on a book called 'Rao' and that is the author's version of what happened in Bajirao and Mastani's love story. So look at it as a beautiful rendition... Epic saga told from vision of Sanjay Leela Bhansali," said Priyanka, reported the daily.

"Bajirao Mastani" is a period drama, based on the love story of the warrior Peshwa Baji Rao, (played by Ranveer Singh) and his second wife Mastani (played by Deepika). Priyanka is essaying the role of Bajirao's first wife, Kashibai.

"Bajirao Mastani" will clash at the box office with Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol starrer "Dilwale" on 18 December.
