Taiwanese computer maker Asus on Wednesday launched its voice-calling Fonepad tablet in the burgeoning Indian technology market with an affordable price tag of ₹15,999.
"Users now want a better screen with entertainment, social media and other online activities and this is playing an increasingly important part in our mobile lifestyles," said Mr. Peter Chang, Regional Director - South Asia & Country Manager, System Business Group, ASUS India.
He further said that, "By incorporating 3G mobile data connectivity with full telephony support, we have made the ASUS FonepadTM the perfect combination of a tablet and phone in one single device at an affordable price".

Asus Fonepad sports a 7.0-inch IPS HD 1280x800p resolution display with close to 216 pixels per inch pixel density. It runs on Android mobile OS v4.1 Jelly Bean powered by a single-core Intel Atom Z2420 processor with 1.2GHz CPU speed and PowerVR GC540 graphics engine.
The Asus tablet comes with 1GB RAM and 8GB memory storage with options of expanding up to 32GB.
Considering its features and affordable price-tag, Asus Fonepad is expected to give stiff challenge to Samsung Tab 2 (P3100), Apple iPad mini and might even cannibalize Google's flagship Nexus 7 tablet which also made its debut in India only a few weeks ago with the same price-tag.
Asus FonePad is exepected to be available in Croma Stores and other select partner retail stores by 30 April for Rs. 15,999.
