Smartphone leaders Samsung and Nokia launched their affordable Galaxy Young and Lumia 520 smartphones, respectively, into the Indian markets a few days ago.

For a low price tag, both smartphones pack pretty descent features. But will the Windows Phone OS end up as a drawback for Lumia 520 against Samsung's Galaxy Young?

Here is brief comparison of main specs between Nokia Lumia 520 and Samsung Galaxy Young:

Lumia 520 sports a 4.0-inch screen with 480x800p display and boasts pixel density of 245 ppi (pixels per inch) with Nokia's exclusive ClearBlack display technology which enhances the experience of viewing content even under direct sun-light on the device.

Galaxy Young too sports a competitive display panel with 320x480 pixel resolution for screen size of 3.2-inch and pixel density of the display comes close to 176 ppi.

Processor:

Lumia 520 comes with a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 1GHz CPU, whereas Samsung smartphone houses a single-core Cortex A-5 processor with 1GHz CPU speed.

Camera:

Lumia 520 sports a pretty decent 5.0-megapixel main camera, while Galaxy Young once again fails to measure up to its rival with a 3.2-megapixel main camera.

Since both smartphones fall in the low-cost price bracket, they will not pack a secondary camera and flash support for the main camera.

Mobile Operating System:

In this aspect, Galaxy Young like any other Android smartphone holds the upper hand against Windows Phone OS based smartphones.

Galaxy Young runs on the Android v4.1 Jelly Bean, whereas Lumia 520 runs on the Windows Phone 8 OS. Android users will have the advantage of downloading any new application in the market since many app developers prefer Android over the Windows ecosystem.

For instance, popular photo-sharing app 'Instagram' is yet to make its debut in the Windows Phone store.

In terms of memory, battery capacity and other add-on features such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and network connectivity, Lumia 520 and Galaxy Young have minor differences.

Price:

Lumia 520 is priced ₹10,499, whereas Galaxy Young holds a price-tag of ₹8,290, almost ₹2,200 lesser than its competitor. However, Lumia 520's build quality, 5.0-megapixel camera and dual-core processor pretty much compensates for its high price.
